It will focus on sourcing 800 Mw for BEST and 477 Mw for its own distribution system from April '10. Sources said TPC on Thursday officially wrote a letter on the issue to R-Infra, informing them that it would support the ADA group company till March next year in the interest of Mumbai's consumers, and help R-Infra find alternative arrangements. While a Tata Power spokesperson declined to comment, an R-Infra spokesperson expressed surprise over the decision.

Tata Power declared encouraging results for the April-June quarter (Q1) of the 2023-23 financial year (FY24). The firm's revenue rose 5 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) to Rs 15,210 crore. It was driven by higher sales to distribution companies (discoms) and capacity addition in renewables. Company's adjusted profit after tax (PAT) rose 3 per cent to Rs 906 crore with reported PAT at Rs 1,100 crore on a one-time gain of Rs 235 crore.

Tata Power was one of the bidders for the 4,000-Mw Sasan UMPP in Madhya Pradesh, finally bagged by Reliance Power. Tata Power says the permission granted for diversion of coal from the Sasan project's captive mines was a substantial deviation from the bid conditions and affected the economics of the project. It approached the Delhi High Court challenging this diversion and sought re-tendering for the UMPP so that the bidders could factor in the benefits of this diversion.

Tata Power Company, India's largest private power utility, has announced that it would not bid for imported coal-based Ultra Mega Power Projects in future, until the overall policy environment becomes favourable. The company plans to increase its installed power generation capacity to 8,000 Mw by 2012 and 12,000 Mw by 2014 from the current 2,700 Mw.
